From Design to Film: A Journey of Transformation

Masaya Matsui’s journey into filmmaking was anything but conventional. After graduating from Waseda University, he initially pursued a career as a graphic designer. However, his passion for storytelling and cinema soon led him to transition into the film industry, where he began making his mark as a VFX director.

His expertise in visual effects set the stage for his evolution into a director, allowing him to craft visually stunning narratives that push the boundaries of conventional storytelling. This transition culminated in the creation of his debut short film, The Boy and the Whore, which premiered at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival.
