Paul Brenno

Born and raised in the plains of Minot, North Dakota, Paul Brenno’s passion for cinematography began early, inspired by his father’s work as a TV/radio salesman and his exposure to TV production crews. His love for cameras, lighting, and editing deepened under the influence of his family—his mother, an educator, and his brother, a photographer.

Paul’s filmmaking journey truly ignited in high school, where he developed a love for American Cinematographer magazine. After graduating, he joined the US Air Force, a move that led him to meet acclaimed cinematographer Ken Lamkin (ASC). Post-service, Paul earned a BA in Film from Montana State University, where he had the opportunity to meet Oscar-winning cinematographer Dean Semler (ACS/ASC).

Upon graduation, Paul launched his career as a Creative Services Producer/Editor, progressing to Director/Director of Photography. His talents took him to Denver, where he served as Chief Cinematographer, earning national recognition, including a Telly Award and a CBA Award for Excellence. However, the 2009 recession forced him to return home, where he faced personal tragedy with the loss of his mother.

Despite setbacks, Paul continued to create impactful work, including commercials, music videos, and documentaries. His projects garnered over 100 film festival awards for cinematography and directing, affirming his dedication to the craft.

In 2021, after battling a life-threatening case of COVID-19, Paul’s perspective on life and work deepened. Now, as he seeks new opportunities in Arizona, his passion for cinematography remains unwavering. Paul credits his resilience and success to his family, mentors like Dean Semler and Ken Lamkin, and his faith in Jesus Christ.

Paul Brenno’s journey is a testament to perseverance, creativity, and an enduring love for storytelling through film.

My thanks to, Mom/Dad, my entire family, especially my brother Paris and his wife Mary Beth, to my dear friends/colleagues, including Dean Semler (ASC), Ken Lamkin (ASC), Kevin, Barb, Dawn, Samantha, Ira, Jeff, Haley, Mark, The Entertainment Collaborators Facebook group, my alma mater Montana State Dept of Film, to so many more whom I haven’t mentioned, who encouraged and supported me along the way“.
